ENICTO Cross-Consortium Collaborative Pilots
To foster novel ideas and collaboration, ENICTO investigators are able to apply for $175,000 each year to conduct Cross-Consortium Collaborative Pilots. This pilots help inform the feasibility and translation of cancer treatment approaches into clinical care.
Year 5 (2026-2027)
Relative Dose Intensity among Non-Trial Patients at ENICTO Study Sites and Its Relationship with Body Mass Index and Mortality
Aim: Using electronic health record (EHR) data to characterize RDI among patients who are not enrolled in TEAL at Yale and Miami and address RDI’s relationship with BMI and mortality
Led by: Leah M. Ferrucci
Projects involved: TEAL, ACTION, TNT
BOOSTER: Broadening Outreach and Optimizing StraTegies for Effective
Recruitment (Extension)
Aim: To explore AI methods to enhance speed of EHR patient screening, document recruitment following BOOSTER strategies, and prepare dissemination of recruitment strategies.
Led by: Jess Scott
Projects involved: TNT, Coordinating Center, TEAL
Associations of residential area characteristics with cancer treatment outcomes in ENICTO
Aim: Collect residential area characteristic data for the ENICTO study participants. Long term, we propose to answer the following research questions: To what extent are residential area characteristics associated with 1) exercise adherence, 2) RDI, and 3) PRO-CTCAE measures?
Led by: Summer V. Harvey
Projects involved: Coordinating Center, THRIVE-65, TNT, ACTION, and TEAL
Multidimensional Malnutrition Measures and Patient-Reported Symptom Burden During Chemotherapy
Aim: Evaluate whether baseline Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) predicts post-chemotherapy patient-reported symptom burden. And explore correlations between baseline PNI, Patient Generated-Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA), handgrip strength, and diet (quality/protein)
Led by: Melissa Lopez-Pentecost
Projects involved: TEAL, THRIVE-65, TNT. Coordinaitng Center, and ACTION
Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Minimal Residual Disease and T Cell Mitochondrial Function
Aim: To determine the effects of aerobic exercise on mitochondrial function in T cells, determine the effects of aerobic exercise on CTC burden and phenotype associated with metastatic potential in cancer, and determine the effects of aerobic exercise on tumor fraction via ctDNA.
Led by: Eunhan Cho
Projects involved: ACTION, TEAL, TNT
Year 3 (2024-2025)
Projects approved by the Steering Committee in June 2023 for funding from July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025.
Additional Support Systems in Study Technology (ASSIST)
Aim: Develop a system to monitor patient barriers and facilitators (including patient-provider communication) for digital health device implementation
Led by: Jessica Scott and Jenna Harrison
Projects involved: TNT, TEAL, THRIVE-65,
Coordinating, and NCI
Exploring Barriers and Facilitators of Adopting Health Behaviors
Aim: Conduct qualitative assessments to record the barriers and facilitators of engagement and adherence to ENICTO guideline-based lifestyle recommendations delivered during chemotherapy.
Led by: Leah Puklin
Projects involved: TEAL, ACTION, THRIVE-65, TNT, and Coordinating Center
Led by: Leah Puklin
Projects involved: TEAL, ACTION, THRIVE-65, TNT, and Coordinating Center
Implementation Science in ENICTO (2nd year)
Aim: Identify and specify the core functions of the ENICTO programs and develop a process to document adaptations. It also aims to assess satisfaction among patients.
Led by: Karen Basen-Engquist
Projects involved: ACTION, TEAL, THRIVE-65, TNT, Coordinating Center, and NCI

Microbiome Pilot Study
Aim: Collect and archive stool samples at baseline and end of intervention from participants and collect preliminary data on the acceptability and feasibility of stool sample collection.
Led by: Bette Caan, Kim Robien
Projects involved: Coordinating Center, ACTION, TEAL, TNT, NCI, and Harvard Consultant

Preventing Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN)
Aim: Assess the effect of a diet and/or exercise intervention on prevention of CIPN during chemotherapy in cancer patients via objective assessments of CIPN (SWME and tuning fork measurement of vibration).
Led by: Christina Dieli-Conwright, Leah Ferrucci
